ZENS presents a novel seat, with indispensable wireless battery charging area in HIMACS
“Recharged” is a novel kind of seating: up to three people can sit and recharge their smartphones – without cables or plugs. The colourful cushion is ideal for sitting and relaxing, while the round HIMACS platform at the centre of this design furniture offers the opportunity to recharge the batteries of mobile devices, within three areas marked by circles. In cooperation with the furniture manufacturer Royal Ahrend, Dutch designer Basten Leijh has created design furniture that unites comfort and state-of-the-art technology and is especially suited for lounges and waiting rooms. The solid surface material HIMACS proves once again that pleasing optics and soft haptics can co-exist with high-tech properties. Cushioning and fabric are combined in a unique way with the resistant natural acrylic stone, which is non-porous and resistant to stains or scratches. Wireless battery charging takes place via the latest induction technology. The Dutch company ZENS has made significant developments in this field. Through the company’s pioneering work, this technology can now be used for all types of technological devices, in any kind of environment. While previous wireless charging stations were clearly recognisable, the technology from ZENS in “Recharged” remains invisible seamlessly melding in the seat's solid surface material. Erik Plasmans, CEO of ZENS, was particularly enthused by the perfect conductivity of HIMACS: “Tests have revealed that our charging station functions especially well in combination with HIMACS. The material creates an ideal connection between the sender and a receiver like a mobile phone.” As the charging station is firmly integrated in the smooth acrylic stone, it is not susceptible to water, scratches or other signs of wear, and can therefore act as a constant and safe energy source while not distracting from the object’s design. Individual points of light or coloured highlights can be set on the charging station as desired. The “Recharged” seat not only supplies energy, it also emits it from below – in the form of red light, giving a pleasant atmosphere to the entire room, making them immediately obvious. It provides the ideal place for sitting and waiting, whether in a hotel, at the airport, at the office or in a doctor’s waiting room.
