HIMACS: luxury and comfort for a home that embraces both nature and the ocean in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
This spectacular property, situated in one of the main arterial routes of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, boasts panoramic views of the ocean, the beaches and the harbour. The complete renovation, carried out by Nayra Iglesias from In Out Studio, has given this apartment a new lease of life, transforming it into a vibrant residence that is both in touch with the natural environment and adapted to the specific requirements of its owners, including their beloved dog, Sora. Smooth and elegant HIMACS surfaces add practical beauty to the bathrooms, which are intended as an oasis of well-being.
The apartment, built in the 1970s, had an old-fashioned, compartmentalised design. Despite the spectacular views, the layout was inward facing, making it dark and not as functional as it could be. In order for the natural light and glorious sea views to be enjoyed from every corner of the home, a radical rearrangement of the layout was needed to open up the rooms. This was undoubtedly the project’s primary challenge.
The result is a contemporary, fresh and timeless home that radiates peaceful luxury. Every space has been conceived to maximise the sense of well-being and comfort of all its inhabitants, including Sora, the family's canine companion. Even she can contemplate the stunning views from a bespoke vantage point, integrated into the main bookshelves in the lounge.
At 140 m², the property includes a spacious kitchen, dining room, open-plan living room, a home office, two bathrooms and two bedrooms. Every part of the space is bathed in natural light pouring through large windows, creating an open, welcoming atmosphere.
Kitchen, dining room and living room: a an open plan celebration of the senses.
The renovation is distinguished by the ideal integration of the kitchen, dining room and living room into a single space. This reconfiguration allows the three zones to coexist in functional harmony.
The kitchen, decorated with warm tones and natural materials, is notable for its imposing central island in marble and wood. A split level, mulit-functional structure, it offers ample space for food preparation and a table for informal dining.
The open-plan layout connects the kitchen with the dining room on one side, and the living room on the other, creating a natural flow. A shelving unit, custom-designed by the studio, acts as a visual divider that subtly defines the areas without closing off the space.
The living room is presented as an open-plan area that is full of light, where natural materials and organic shapes create a welcoming and comfortable ambience. To optimise the use of space and meet the needs of the four-legged inhabitant, the fitted shelf under the window was tailor-made to fulfil a dual function. In addition to being an elegant bookcase for the owners, a tiny staircase transforms it into the ideal vantage point from which Sora can view the outside world and also feel fully integrated into the environment.
The bedroom, a stylish sanctuary
The heart of the home is the master bedroom, a room designed to offer serenity and comfort, with a large window that floods the space with natural light and an en-suite bathroom that enhances its exclusive character. A palette of earthy tones evokes deep connections to the natural environment, keeping the interior in tune with the exterior.
Made-to-measure furniture provides a distinctive touch, and is elegantly at home in the space. Next to the window, a special nook has been set aside so Sora can enjoy the sunshine that streams in while watching the world go by, adding an extra personalised touch to this intimate and snug retreat.
At the opposite end of the apartment is the guest room, a space that serves as a cosy living room during the day. A magnificent large terrace window lends the room a vibrant mood.
The bathroom, a refuge for wellbeing
The apartment benefits from two bathrooms: one for guests and one en suite to the master bedroom, intended as a private sanctuary with a feminine aesthetic that reflects the personality of its owner. Natural materials and wallpaper with a plant motif create an atmosphere of serenity and connection with nature, providing an intimate refuge in which to enjoy moments of calm and self-care.
For both bathrooms, bespoke washbasins were created from HIMACS, the high-performance solid surface recognised for its sleek, seamless finish. The material’s qualities were perfectly aligned with the expectations of the homeowners, who were seeking both elegant aesthetics and easy maintenance. HIMACS was the clear choice thanks to exceptional properties such as high strength and resistance, non-porosity and simple cleaning. These qualities ensure impeccable hygiene and reliable durability, while providing a sophisticated look that blends beautifully with the overall design of the home.
The shade of Ivory White, from the HIMACS Solids range perfectly complements the white marble on the walls. For the guest bathroom, Nougat Cream was chosen from the same range, providing a subtle and pleasing warmth at ease with the other tones and finishes in the room.
Encouraging creativity through biophilia
The concept of biophilia has been incorporated into the home office area of the apartment to enhance creativity and productivity. Pastel green tones, combined with wallpaper featuring plant motifs, stimulate concentration and focus, establishing an intimate connection with nature.
The use of natural materials, such as wood, along with the inclusion of potted plants and the maximising of natural light, creates an inspiring and revitalising atmosphere that encourages well-being.
The central design concept of this comprehensive renovation is based on the fusion of luxury and comfort. Natural illumination has been optimised, enhancing the spaciousness of each room and creating an experience that combines privacy, comfort and opulence in a balanced way. The palette of soft beige tones, including HIMACS Ivory White and Nougat Cream selected for the bathrooms, in addition to elegant textiles and organic textures, has contributed to a calm and sophisticated atmosphere to enhance the enjoyment of this beautifully refurbished home.
