Contrasting finishes: HIMACS and copper shine brightly in this kitchen

Created by Dutch design studio Opstals Interieurmakers, this kitchen in a private home in Susteren (the Netherlands) is a real celebration of eclectic combinations of finishes, textures and materials. The painstakingly perfected configuration plays with contrasts and interlocking pieces, for a bold yet balanced result. HIMACS was utilised in the design for the surfaces of the two L-shaped islands, and combined with copper cabinet fronts, brighten up the entire room.

To give the space visual harmony and promote functionality, the designers chose to combine the metallic finish with the soft opacity of HIMACS Alpine White. This effect is further amplified by the sheen of the elegant Calacatta marble that covers the floor, as well as the abundance of natural light from the large French windows that look out onto the outdoor terrace.

The area is framed by a system of visible black shelves that accentuate the contrast between the pureness of the white and the warmth of the copper.

The Solid Surface was used to create a large workspace for the recessed steel sinks and glass-ceramic hob, as well as a practical home for the coffee area.

HIMACS also extends down the vertical surfaces of the kitchen islands in a modern waterfall effect, and at the ends of the two worktops, towel holders have been integrated into the top for greater functionality. To get even more space, the designers used HIMACS to create a series of useful shelves and niches for holding decorative items and small appliances, such as the wine cooler.

HIMACS is the perfect choice for the kitchen, thanks to its 15-year durability guarantee and the exceptionally high levels of hygiene – certified by an independent laboratory in accordance with LGA and NSF international standards – that food to be handled completely safely.

HIMACS is a non-porous, seamless material, which prevents the accumulation of dirt and the spread of micro-organisms that are hazardous to health such as germs, mould and bacteria. The smooth, silky surface is extremely easy to clean and resists the most aggressive detergents. The Solid Surface material is also resistant to heat and any scrapes or scratches that can occur during everyday kitchen activity are easy to polish away.
